Spring has sprung in this graceful design with an array
of flowers in the foreground surrounding a delicate and
subtle birdhouse. Students will be using a pre-cut
stencil and applying gold leaf paste to selected areas.
This technique was taught to me by the National Living
Treasure of Embroidery of Japan. An array of
flowers are stitched to achieve realism with the use of
stitches such as buttonhole long and short shading,
whipped backstitch, bullion knots, shaded encroaching,
shaded burden, and burden topped off with long and
short. The centers of the flowers will include
metal bullion in a variety of uses. The leaves
will have two types of or nue, fly stitch, and other
couched stitches.
The
birdhouse is intended to be subtle yet dramatic.
Outlined in gold metallic with basic couching, other
areas will include some pattern couching and be accented
with other metallics. This will give emphasis to
the flowers but make the house dramatic none the less.
If you are looking for the birds, they will be provided
in class for later addition.
Your kit will include light blue congress cloth for your
ground, silks, metals, metallic threads, instructions,
color photo and two birds. |
